Simone Bishop is a Clinical and Counselling Psychologist who provides counselling and psychotherapy for adults and adolescents. Simone graduated from Murdoch University in 2004 and obtained her master’s degree in Psychology (Counselling) from Curtin University. Simone holds experience working in a range of interdisciplinary treatment settings, including private psychiatric hospitals and within the child protection field.

Simone’s approach to therapy is relaxed, person centred and trauma informed. Simone enjoys working with a broad range of presenting issues, including (but not limited to) depression, anxiety, stress, relationship difficulties, parenting and attachment, perinatal mental health, grief and loss and working with individuals who have experienced trauma.

Simone also holds an interest in helping people with chronic pain and chronic health issues. She has experience supporting individuals with a range of chronic health conditions, most extensively with Type 1 Diabetes and other autoimmune diseases. Research is increasingly showing us how important the connection between mind and body is to the physical symptoms we experience - that our thoughts, feelings and actions play an important role. Simone conceptualises chronic pain and health issues in a multi-dimensional way - examining both the physical and emotional aspects and the ways in which we relate to and think about our physical symptoms.

Simone understands the importance of working with the impact of our past experiences on the mind, body and nervous system. She holds specialized training in trauma treatment methods that are body oriented and neurobiologically based. Because each person’s experiences and challenges are unique, Simone utilises a flexible and integrative approach based on her training in:

  • Psychodynamic Psychotherapy

  • Body-oriented and neurobiologically based trauma treatment methods including: Somatic Experiencing, NeuroAffective Touch and Comprehensive Resource Model

  • Schema Therapy

  • Family Systems

  • Attachment focused therapy

  • Circle of Security Parenting (COS-P)

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

  • Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)

Simone has also completed Yoga (Hatha Vinyasa) Teacher Training (350 hrs). The integration of yoga and mindfulness practices enriches her therapeutic work, offering clients additional tools for self-awareness, relaxation, and resilience-building.

Simone is registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency and is a member of the Association of Counselling Psychologists.
